Hoya elliptica, commonly referred to as the Veined Wax Plant, is a stunning and rare species of Hoya prized for its distinctively veined, elliptical-shaped leaves.
Each leaf is dark green with striking white, prominent veins that create a unique pattern, often compared to the intricate designs on turtle shells, giving it the nickname "Turtle Shell Hoya." Native to the lush tropical regions of Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, this Hoya species thrives in warm and humid environments.
The plant is a slow to moderate grower, producing long, trailing vines that make it an excellent choice for hanging baskets or decorative trellises. Beyond its attractive foliage, Hoya elliptica is cherished for its delicate, fragrant flowers.
Like other Hoyas, it blooms in umbels of star-shaped flowers, typically in shades of creamy white with soft pink centres, exuding a pleasant, sweet fragrance.
These blooms, which can last several weeks, add another layer of appeal, making Hoya elliptica a sought-after species for collectors and indoor gardeners.
Its combination of unique foliage, elegant blooms, and relatively easy care has earned Hoya elliptica a place as one of the most desirable houseplants for both novice growers and seasoned Hoya enthusiasts.
